A BRIEF REPORT ON TSUNAMI RELIEF WORK IN PRAKASAM AND NELLORE DISTRICTS OF ANDHRA PRADESH, SOUTH INIDA.

It is not over …

26th December 2004 was a horrifying day in the lives of the villagers who live in the costal areas of the Bay of Bengal in the south part of India. The tidal weaves with lots of ferocity attacked the villages which is called “TSUNAMI” and has killed many people damaged properties and made thousand and thousands of people homeless with in four minutes of time. The most effected places in South India are Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala

COREED has been working in Andhra Pradesh especially in Prakasam and Nellore Districts since 1987 with the only support of the “Friends of COREED Switzerland The area of operation of COREED activities are mostly in the costal region. Number of villages in both districts were damaged and more then 105 deaths took place and about 2000 people are untraced till today.

COREED has requested the “Friends of COREED Switzerland”  to help the Tsunami Victims. They have informed several individuals & churches to help the victims. We have received help from many Individuals and Churches namely: The Friends of COREED Switzerland, Prediger Church in Zürich, Reformed Church Kanton of Zürich, Baptist Churches in Zürich, Thalwil, Schaffhausen, Rüschlikon, Bülach and Basel and from a Beneficiary Concert in the Münster of Basel.

COREED has made an effort to help the Tsunami Victims with it’s entire team. We continued our work for 55 days in 19 villages and now we feel that some kind of initial help is provided to these unfortunate victims of Tsunami. The work was a bit hectic but we all enjoyed in serving, caring and sharing with what we have. COREED Director Rev.Dr.Jaya Paul Ravela said “ truly this is the time that we take care of the victims who lost their beloved ones, their properties and became homeless.”  COREED team right from village level leadership dedicated sincerely to help the effected villagers. Every experience was a sorrowful, bitter, heart breaking and unforgettable. Mothers lost their loving children, husbands lost their loving wifes, Children lost their loving mothers and fathers and so and  on …

people ask us “why this happened to us ? what have we done ? is God angry on us ? and many more questions. It took time for us to counsel them and treat them width love and affection.

COREED would like to bring a brief report of our efforts to the victims as an immediate relief. To this effect we have systemised our work in to 5 phases and they are :
